[When John the Baptist heard in prison of the works of the Christ,
he sent his disciples to Jesus with this question,
“Are you the one who is to come,
or should we look for another?”] (Mt. 11:2-3)

John the Baptist who had been a staunch witness to faith in the arrival of the Messiah suddenly seems to have his faith waver. He is curious, “Is Jesus really our guy?”

John’s possible doubts can give us hope. His faith is strengthened by Jesus. This implies that his faith wasn’t as strong as “it should have been”. Eventually though his journey of faith brought  him to salvation.

John’s was a journey of faith and it is our journey as well. There are times we too think our faith is not as strong as “it should’ve been” or “should be”.  This is not a bad thing.  These opportunities provide space and time for our faith to grow and mature. Wherever you are on your faith journey, be encouraged by John the Baptist’s own journey. Allow Jesus to draw you to the manger and into a saving faith.
