[Jesus spoke to the crowds and to His disciples, saying,
“The scribes and the Pharisees
have taken their seat on the chair of Moses.
Therefore, do and observe all things whatsoever they tell you,
but do not follow their example.
For they preach but they do not practice.“] (Mt.23:1-3)
Far too often Jesus’s critique of the Pharisees and scribes can be said about us.
At times, we say one thing and do another. We ascribe to double standards, expecting people to be and/or act a certain way while we ourselves ignore our own need to meet those same standards.
In what ways do I speak out of both sides of my mouth? Do I practice everything I preach? What do I expect other people to do which I myself excuse myself from doing?
