President’s Message 12 17 2022

Dear Assumption Catholic Schools,

As we enter the last leg of our Advent journey, let us keep our eyes on the prize.  Celebrating the birth of Jesus and His fulfillment of God’s promise to redeem the world.

This week our strength building on the virtue of HUMILITY is SILENCE.
The strength that disposes the soul to converse
continually with God.

O Lord, I offer you this moment of silence.
Help me to slow down my thoughts and my
imagination,
Help me to calm down my fears and my
emotions,
Help me to exercise patience and humility
And I offer you these feeble efforts…
I lift up my soul to You, Lord.
I love You and I need You. Amen.

This week our strength building on the virtue of

We know that in order to draw closer to God — to
move from stage to stage of our relationship with
Him — we must embrace the Holy Spirit and
allow Him to direct our lives.
We will only be able to achieve this docility to the
Holy Spirit in silence, as Mary did.

The fruit of silence is
PRAYER.
The fruit of prayer is
FAITH
The fruit of faith is
LOVE
The fruit of love is
SERVICE
The fruit of service is
PEACE.

RESOLUTION
SILENCE

Turn off your devices and spend some
time in silent prayer for at least a few
minutes every day this week and over
Christmas break.

FAMILY RESOLUTION
Read the first few chapters of the
Gospel of Luke together as a family

Silent Night

Silent night, holy night!
All is calm, all is bright.
Round yon Virgin, Mother and Child.
Holy infant so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace,
Sleep in heavenly peace.
Silent night, holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight.
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia,
Christ the Saviour is born!
Christ the Saviour is born
Silent night, holy night!
Son of God love’s pure light.
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus Lord, at Thy birth
Jesus Lord, at Thy birth

Matthew 6: 6
“Whenever you pray, go into your room
and shut the door and
pray to your Father who is in secret;
and your Father who sees in secret
will reward you.”

“Patience, prayer and silence
– these are what give strength to the soul.”
– St. Faustina

The opposing vice NOISE

THE WEAKNESS THAT DISRUPTS THE SOUL CAUSING DIFFICULTIES
TO CONVERSE WITH GOD.

TYPICAL EXCUSES TO AVOID SILENCE & PRAYER
VICE
Too tired
Too busy
My mind wanders right away
Just don’t feel anything
I get bored
I fall asleep
It feels absurd
It just doesn’t come naturally
I just don’t feel like I need to
I’m good
Feels like a waste of time
Silence and prayer are not the
preparation for the battle.
They are the battle!

CLOSING PRAYER
SILENCE
O Lord, I offer you this moment of silence.
Help me to slow down my thoughts and my
imagination,
Help me to calm down my fears and my
emotions,
Help me to exercise patience and humility
And I offer you these feeble efforts…
I lift up my soul to You, Lord.
I love You and I need You. Amen.

In Christ’s Peace
