Dear Assumption Catholic Schools,

The Christmas season winds down this weekend with the Feast of the Baptism of Jesus on January 9.  I pray that your Christmas was one of joy and of being blessed by God.  We are a fortunate people to have a God who so loved us that He sent His Son to redeem us.

The virtue this week is prudence

The virtue of Prudence is the strength that disposes practical reason to discern
our true good in every circumstance and to choose the right means of achieving it.
PRUDENCE

Lord, You are the source of all light, wisdom and
PRUDENCE. Help us to know right from wrong.
Help us to judge correctly in the different
situations of our lives … when to do something,
when not to, when to say something, when to
stay quiet, when to stand firm
and when to let go …

The virtue of Prudence is the strength that
disposes practical reason to discern our true
good in every circumstance and to choose the
right means of achieving it.
It is right reason in things to be done.
Prudence isn’t merely about knowing the good,
it’s about doing the good.

How to strengthen

Ask for help and advice from those whom we
trust. We should learn from our elders.
Think about the different circumstances and
consequences before making a decision.
Reflect back on our actions to see how we could
have done better.
Remember to always pray and ask God for His
Light and Guidance.

Prudence helps us to:
• Know the truth and the best way to act at all
times.
• Make good decisions.
• Do good and avoid evil.

RESOLUTION

Always use the nam e of Jesus with
prudence and reverence. Do not take
the Lord’s name in vain. Praise Jesus!

FAMILY RESOLUTION
Mark your house with Blessed Chalk.
Write 20 + C + M + B + 22 above the
doorpost of your home together as a
family.

Luke 14: 28-33
“For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not
first sit down and estimate the cost, to see whether
he has enough to complete it?
Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not
able to finish, all who see it will begin to ridicule him,
saying, ‘This fellow began to build and was not able
to finish.’
Or what king, going out to wage war against another
king, will not sit down first and consider whether he is
able with ten thousand to oppose the one who comes
against him with twenty thousand? If he cannot, then,
while the other is still far away, he sends a delegation
and asks for the terms of peace.
So therefore, none of you can become my disciple if
you do not give up all your possessions.”

“We have been called to heal wounds, to unite
what has fallen apart, and to bring home those
who have lost their way. ”
– St. Francis of Assisi

The opposing vice

IMPRUDENCE
THE WEAKNESS TO TO RUSH INTO DECISIONS OR ACTIONS
WITHOUT CAREFUL CONTEMPLATION.

EXAMPLES OF IMPRUDENCE
* Assuming things without knowing for sure.
* Blaming someone without actual proof.
* Doing the wrong thing knowing the
consequences ahead of time, such as:
-Drinking and driving
-Cheating on a test
-Buying something knowing you can’t afford it

Lord, we praise You for being so good to us. We want to be
more like You each day.
Help us to be more PRUDENT by knowing when to do
something, and when not to, when to say something, and when
to stay quiet, when to stand firm
and when to let go …
In Your Name we pray, o Lord. Amen.

In Christ’s Peace
