President’s Virtue Blog March 18

Dear Assumption Catholic Schools,

As we near the mid point of our Lenten journey, let us take time to be thankful for the gift that God made to mankind when He sent his only Son to redeem us from the stain of original sin.  God wants nothing more than for us to love Him and serve Him.  Jesus is the way, the truth and the light.

Our virtue this week is generousity.

The strength to go beyond the call of duty.

“Lord, teach me to be generous.
Teach me to serve you as you deserve;
to give and not to count the cost,
to fight and not to heed the wounds,
to toil and not to seek for rest,
to labor and not to ask for reward,
save that of knowing that I do your will.”
– St. Ignatius Loyola

The Saints are outstanding examples of living
and giving of themselves beyond the call of duty.
They truly put God first in everything they thought,
said and did.
Let’s strive to imitate their example.

Where can you go bey ond the call of duty
this week?
Where can you do something extra to
serve someone?
Who can you help in a special way?

MARK 12: 41-44
And Jesus sat down opposite the treasury, and began
observing how the people were putting money into
the treasury;
and many rich people were putting in large sums.
A poor widow came and put in two small copper
coins, which amount to a cent.
Calling His disciples to Him, He said to them, “Truly I
say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the
contributors to the treasury;
for they all put in out of their surplus, but she, out of
her poverty, put in all she owned, all she had to live
on.”

“If you must choose between me and the baby.
Save the baby!”
– St. Gianna Beretta Molla

“The giver of every good and perfect gift has
called upon us to mimic Gods giving, by grace,
through faith, and this is not of ourselves.”
– St. Nicholas of Smyrna

The opposing vice

STINGINESS
THE WEAKNESS TO GIVE AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE.

EXAMPLES OF STINGINESS
• Not sharing.
• Being able to give of your time, talent or treasure
and you choose not to give anything or much less
than what you are capable of giving.
• Comparing what you give with others.
• You know someone needs help but you won’t.
Reflect on how and why people are stingy and how
that impacts the world.

CLOSING PRAYER
GENEROSITY
“Lord, teach me to be generous.
Teach me to serve you as you deserve;
to give and not to count the cost,
to fight and not to heed the wounds,
to toil and not to seek for rest,
to labor and not to ask for reward,
save that of knowing that I do your will.”
– St. Ignatius Loyola
