Frequently Asked Questions
When does the day begin & end?
Our school day starts at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 2:45 p.m.
How early can I drop off my student for school?
The doors are open at 7:00 am and the teachers start arriving shortly thereafter. The classrooms are not open to students until 7:15 am; however, students are allowed to visit in the hallways.
What if I cannot pick my student up right away at 2:45 pm?
Although the school day ends at 2:45 p.m., many of our extra-curricular activities take place after school from 2:45-3:30 p.m. If there are no club meetings after school, the students have the option of an after school room where they can do homework or visit quietly until 3:30 p.m. After 3:30 p.m. the students are no longer supervised and should be picked up from school.
Where do I pick up my student after school?
Pick-up is on Mead Street, in front of the Middle School entrance. The buses pick up on Hill Street. The middle school students are not allowed into the high school hallways after school for any reason (even for rides) until 3:15 p.m.
How do you keep the middle school students and the high school students separate?
The middle school is located on the west wing of the building on the 1st and 2nd floors. We share (at separate times) the art & music rooms, cafeteria, gym, computer labs and library with the high school. Although we share one building, the high school and middle school students do not interact during the school day.
How often does middle school have Religion class and mass?
AMS students have religion class 5 days a week and a weekly mass. We celebrate mass on Holy Days of Obligation, Reconciliation, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and Shadow Stations. In addition, all classes partake in an annual Retreat Day. Regardless of religious affiliation, all AMS students must take religion class per Diocesan Regulations.
