When does the day begin & end?

Our school day starts at 7:30 a.m. and ends at 2:45 p.m.

How early can I drop off my student for school?

The doors are open at 7:00 am and the teachers start arriving shortly thereafter. The classrooms are not open to students until 7:15 am; however, students are allowed to visit in the hallways.

What if I cannot pick my student up right away at 2:45 pm?

Although the school day ends at 2:45 p.m., many of our extra-curricular activities take place after school from 2:45-3:30 p.m. If there are no club meetings after school, the students have the option of an after school room where they can do homework or visit quietly until 3:30 p.m. After 3:30 p.m. the students are no longer supervised and should be picked up from school.

Where do I pick up my student after school?

Pick-up is on Mead Street, in front of the Middle School entrance. The buses pick up on Hill Street. The middle school students are not allowed into the high school hallways after school for any reason (even for rides) until 3:15 p.m.

How do you keep the middle school students and the high school students separate?

The middle school is located on the west wing of the building on the 1st and 2nd floors. We share (at separate times) the art & music rooms, cafeteria, gym, computer labs and library with the high school. Although we share one building, the high school and middle school students do not interact during the school day.

How often does middle school have Religion class and mass?

AMS students have religion class 5 days a week and a weekly mass (Wednesdays) There is an opportunity to attend Mass on other days as well. . We celebrate mass on Holy Days of Obligation, Reconciliation, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and Shadow Stations. In addition, all classes partake in an annual Retreat Day. Regardless of religious affiliation, all AMS students must take religion class per Diocesan Regulations.

Can the students go to the chapel?

Yes. If your student wishes to visit the chapel, their teacher will make sure a time is available. Our chaplain, Father Becker is available to assist students with their faith needs.

What do the students wear on a dress up day?

There are a couple times during the year that we have special Dress Up Days. This is different than a regular dress code day. On a Dress Up Day, boys are required to wear a shirt and tie and the girls are required to wear dress pants or skirt, dressy blouse or sweater, or a dress. Dress shoes are not required, but standards of modesty are.

What should students wear on weekly mass days?

Students are not required to dress up on weekly mass days. Regular dress code applies, with the minor exception of no hooded sweatshirts or Royal Wear .

Do the students have recess?

Yes. Every day, during lunch, students have time before and after they eat to play outside (weather permitting) or in the gym.

How does breakfast & snack work?

Every morning before homeroom breakfast is made available for all students. Breakfast and lunch are billed through the hot lunch program. Afternoon snack is FREE for all AMS students. At the beginning of every month, parents receive a Breakfast, Lunch, and Snack Menu. Students may bring in a healthy snack to eat during snack time if they do not want to partake in the free snack that is offered.

What if my student has an appointment during the day?

If your student has an appointment during the day, a written note or email explaining the appointment should be received in the office before school starts. Your student will be given a pass to get out of class at the appropriate time. Upon leaving they should sign out in the middle school office and sign back in when they return. The parent does not need to come into the office to sign the student in/out. ALL notes regarding attendance (vacations, appointments…) should be forwarded to the AMS office.

Can we get homework assignments off of RenWeb?

Yes. Teachers will input daily assignments and parents may access them via RenWeb. We stress the importance of students using their daily planner, so your student’s planner should be the first source when checking for homework assignments.

Missing Assignments or forgetting to do homework?

It is very important for a middle school student to keep up with homework. The workload can be overwhelming when the student falls behind. Parents will receive an email notification via RenWeb when a missing assignment is recorded by their teacher. *If you child is struggling with homework for more than an hour every night, please contact their homeroom teacher ASAP. Communication between home and school is vitally important to ensure that every child be academically successful.

Report Cards and grades on RenWeb.

You will receive a report card every 6 weeks. Each grading term is a Hex, and there are 6 hexes in a year. Parents are encouraged to check the status of their student’s grades and assignments through your RenWeb Parent Access link. This is a highly beneficial tool to help you keep up to date with your students work and progress. Our teachers are always promptly available via email if you have any academic concerns or questions.

Can my student get extra tutorial help?

Our Academic Support Center is available for all students with tutorial needs.

Does the Middle School office sell scrip?

No, however, the main Scrip office is located here at Assumption. Scrip hours are: Tuesday 11-2 / Thursday 11-6 / Friday 8-1 *When school is in session.
