Generosity

April 22, 2025
By Daniel Minter

The strength this week is GENEROSITY - to go beyond the call of duty

“Lord, teach me to be generous. Teach me to serve you as you deserve;
to give and not to count the costm
to fight and not to heed the wounds,
to toil and not to seek for rest,
to labor and not to ask for reward,
save that of knowing that I do your will.”
- St. Ignatius Loyola

Generosity is the virtue of giving freely and joyfully of what we have to help others, expecting nothing in return.

"Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be poured into your lap." (Luke 6:38)

"Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." (2 Corinthians 9:7)

Catechism of the Catholic Church:
“God blesses those who come to the aid of the poor and rebukes those who turn away from them.” (CCC 2443)

the vice is STINGENESS - giving as little as possible

It is the selfish refusal to share what we have, often out of fear, greed, or lack of trust in God’s providence.
