President’s Friday Message 10 22 2021
Good Morning Assumption Catholic Schools,
May God continue to bless you and keep you all safe.
INTRODUCTION
This week our strength building on the virtue of Hope is STEADFASTNESS.
The strength of being dutifully firm and unwavering.
“Hope is the sure and STEADFAST anchor of the soul.”
Catechism of the Catholic Church # 1820
OPENING PRAYER
Lord, sometimes we are tempted to do things that are wrong.
Help us to be STEADFAST and to use our will to always do what is right.
Give us the strength and the wisdom to remember that You are always with us and that You can help us overcome any temptation.
RESOLUTION
WAY TO LIVE THE VIRTUE THIS WEEK
When you give your word to do something, stick to it.
Don’t give up when it gets difficult or boring.
Matthew 10: 28-33
And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather, be afraid of the one who can destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.
Are not two sparrows sold for a small coin? Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father’s knowledge.
Even all the hairs of your head are counted.
So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
Everyone who acknowledges me before others I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father.
But whoever denies me before others, I will deny before my heavenly Father.
“Suffering borne in the will quietly and patiently is a continual, very powerful prayer before God.” St. Jane Frances de Chantel
“We cannot get to Heaven on a featherbed.” St Thomas More
The opposing vice reluctance
THE WEAKNESS TO BE UNWILLING OR HESITANT TO DO THE GOOD.
EXAMPLES OF RELUCTANCE
I should help my friend pick up their things but I hesitate …
I see a kid is alone at lunch but I just keep going … Mom asks for help in the kitchen and I do nothing…
I see someone struggling with something but I don’t offer to help …
CLOSING PRAYER
Grant me, O Lord my God,
a mind to know You,
a heart to seek You,
wisdom to find You,
conduct pleasing to You,
faithful perseverance in waiting for You,
and a hope of finally embracing You.
– Saint Thomas Aquinas
